Hand lettering and hand drawing have become a big part of our designs here at Typeset. We don’t always pull those elements in, but our design still leans that direction. There’s nothing wrong with good, pre-fab type and other elements, but hand lettering and drawing produces one-of-a-kind finished products. It allows us artists to put ourselves into what we do, just a bit more than we could otherwise. Hand lettering adds so much goodness to making art.
I’ve really been getting into hand lettering scripts lately. I lettered a heavy-weight brushy script for Fairchild Photography’s logo, a medium-weight script and sans-serif for Free Woman magazine, and a slender script and sans-serif on wedding invitations for Jessica Lauren’s styled wedding shoot. I want to incorporate a lot more serif, sans-serif, and different styles of script, though. Here’s some inspiration that I’ve collected:
